Ultrasonic-Assisted Brazing of Titanium Joints Using Modified Al-Si-Cu Based Fillers: Brazing at Liquid—Semisolid States under Load

Brazing joints of Ti/Ti under ultrasonic vibration (USV) and compression load were investigated using optimized modified filler alloys Al-Si-Cu-(Ni)-(Sr) group prepared in the lab. Preliminary trails at semisolid to liquid states conducted ready Al-Si-Cu-(Mg) alloy as a filler, then brazing cycle was redesigned enhanced according microstructural observations produced joints. USV assisted state low solid fraction able produce with round silicon morphology granular α−Al, while high fraction, only affect intermetallic particles. Applying after vibration, designed proved be successful technique for improving quality by reducing porosity, enhancing soundness joint, diffusion interface. Based on composition improved cycle, thin layer shear strength (of 93 MPa average value) achieved. The microstructures mechanical behavior discussed based compositions parameters.
